APTR 2010 March 11th, 2010

This workshop strives to connect and support members from various academic disciplines in the prevention community by advancing inter-professional education and research. The workshop will facilitate dialogue between community partners, participants, presenters and academia. The conferences also focuses on building the capacity of community members and organizations to conduct CBPR. Of particular interest will be workshops on engaging community residents, negotiating equitable partnerships with academic centers, and developing strategies to secure funds from NIH, CDC, and other funders. The sponsoring organization, Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR), strives to redefine how the future health professions workforce will be educated. With this in mind, the workshop will take an in-depth look at the Community-Based Participatory Research model (CBPR) as a means of producing social change to improve the lives of individuals and the health of the public. CBPR experts and community partners will lead the all-day workshop. Topics include an introduction to CBPR, ethical issues, building collaborations, and sustaining methods to produce effective results.
